1021 E Cannon
We are requesting a Certificate of Appropriateness for the existing exterior work at 1021 E. Cannon St., including the replacement of the siding and windows, as part of the rehabilitation of the property.
At the time of acquisition, the property was in severely deteriorated condition. The windows were not a uniform original or historic system, but consisted of at least four different generations and materials: wood, aluminum, vinyl, and PVC. The wood windows had extensive rot and deterioration, in some areas severe enough thatt h e frames could be physically penetrated. The aluminum windows showed significant pitting corrosion and surface deterioration. Several vinyland PVC windows were also damaged, including one PVC window with completely shattered glass and a substantially damaged frame.
Giventheir severe deterioration and lack of uniformity, the windows werereplaced aspart of the necessary rehabilitation of the property. rather than removing a substantially intact historic window svstem. The
replacement windows were included in ResidentialRemodel Construction Permit PB24-10584, issued July 23, 2024, and addressed in the building plan review.
The existing front siding was already vertical prior to our renovation, and the replacement siding maintainedthe same vertical orientation. The rehabilitation was Intended to improve the property's condition, satety, habitability, and appearance while retaining the existing structure and its established character.
We respectfully request approval of the existing work through this after-the-fact Certificate of Appropriateness. No pre-renovation photographs of the individual windows are available; the description of their condition is based or their condition at the time of acquisition.
