This appeal is respectfully submitted on behalf of the First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta (the “Church”). Founded over 175 years ago when the city was only eleven years old, since 1914 the church has been located at its present site at the corner of Peachtree Street and 16th Street. In addition to its worship services, the Church provides the longest continuous
operating preschool in the state of Georgia and through its Samaritan Counseling Center prioritizes serving the unhoused. As those programs indicate, the Church has long opened its heart to the community. The Church recently made a concerted effort to open its physical façade along Peachtree to the community and undertook a $46 million renovation to make its facilities
more accessible both to worshippers and to those in need of assistance. The Church obtained a
Special Administrative Permit (“SAP”) from the City on June 17, 2022, authorizing the project
and the drawings submitted in connection therewith. Those drawings identified the locations of
the two proposed signs that are the subject of the instant appeal. A copy of this SAP is attached.
