Highly Hazardous -- Apt Unit 1641
I am reporting an ongoing and unresolved mold and fungal growth concern in my apartment at Cortland at Fifth Plaza in Atlanta, GA. I have been reporting these concerns to property management for months, but the issue has not been properly resolved. I continue to see visible mold/fungal growth in multiple areas of the apartment, including the corners, and the apartment vents remain visibly dirty.
The property manager, Grace Moorate, has not provided adequate communication or a resolution plan. Her last communication with me regarding this matter was on August 27. I have not received a follow-up explaining what was found, what remediation was performed, or what steps are being taken to ensure the mold issue is actually resolved.
On September 4, I was informed that maintenance or a third-party contractor would be entering my apartment while I was traveling. When I returned on September 9, I discovered two HEPA CleanShield filtration machines running in my apartment. I had not been informed that these machines had been placed there, why they were being used, how long they would be running, or what inspection or remediation had occurred. An office associate informed me that the machines had been running since September 4.
I am particularly concerned because this ongoing condition has become a health concern and has been affecting my asthma and ability to comfortably breathe in my apartment. I am concerned about continued exposure to mold and the air quality inside the unit.
At this time, the issue remains unresolved, there has been inadequate communication from management, and I have not been provided with a clear explanation of the source of the mold, inspection findings, remediation performed, or a timeline for permanent resolution. I am requesting that Code Enforcement investigate the reported mold/fungal growth and associated ventilation concerns and determine whether the property is in compliance with applicable housing and safety requirements.
